Tucked away in a remote corner of the North Eastern Cape lies the quaint historical village of Rhodes. It is a quiet and tranquil place, its residents are hospitable and welcoming and you get that relaxed feeling that the pace has slowed and that you have stepped back in time. But, truth be told, it is the fishing that draws one here, the place simply oozes fly fishing. When I’m here which is not often enough, the blood courses through my veins with excitement and anticipation of the challenges to come.
There are many miles of running water, from tiny, quick crystal clear streams in deep valleys set in picturesque mountain surroundings, to large no nonsense rivers that glide more sedately through beautiful pastoral settings. And then of course, there are the hungry wild trout that also call this place home.
